When it comes to retirement, cricketers usually pick the age from 35 years and above. But, it didn't happen with Cecil Wright, who is a fast bowler and known affectionately as ‘Cec’. He recently announced that he will retire in two weeks’ time at the ripe old age of 85.
Yes! you heard it right...Wright’s name will not just be alongside West Indies legends Viv Richards, Gary Sobers and Frank Worrell, but for the longest to outranks them all. He is famously known for taking over 7,000 wickets during a career spanning more than 60 years.
Going back to history, Wright represented Jamaica against Barbados against Sobers and Wes Hall. He moved to England in 1959 and launched a career as a professional in the Central Lancashire League for Crompton. After staying on in England, Wright settled down with wife Enid and then had a son.
As per Hindustan Times report, Wright has played with Richards and Joel Garner in the late 1970's and early 1980's. At one point he took 538 wickets in five seasons, averaging one every 27 balls.
Wright was 49 years old when he made his Test debut in 1877 against Australia in Ashes. He had also estimated that he had played in over two million games. His last day for his career will be on September 7 i.e Saturday.
