CONGRATULATIONS! VIRAT KOHLI TO BE AWARDED THIS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD

Indian Skipper Virat Kohli will be conferred with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna for his excellence in cricket. Along with Kohli, Mirabai Chanu will also be conferred with the Khel Ratna for her contribution to weightlifting.

The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna is given for the spectacular and most outstanding performance in the field of sports by a sportsperson over a period of four years. Kohli was nominated for a second time after failing to get a nod from the committee in 2016. Kohli is currently in the lead now in the ICC rankings. Chanu was recommended post her gold medal in the 48kg category at the World Championships last year.

The awardees will receive the awards from the President of India along with a cash prize of Rs 7.5 lakh at a specially organized function at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on 25th September 2018.
