He then got to bat at number 3 for India in the T20's against NewZealand where he did a reasonable job. His next big opportunity came in the home series against Australia, where India were in trouble, and once again played a very sensible innings of 46 to help India get back on track before getting run out. These two innings showed what Vijay Shankar as a batsman is made off and these are very promising signs.

Now, Having transferred from Delhi to the Sunrisers Hyderabad, he has come out at number 3 against KKR where he played a crucial hand to finish off the innings scoring 40 off just 24 deliveries. Performances in a high-pressure tournament like IPL, will go a long way in boosting his confidence.Apart from this, he can also be a handy bowling option which has not yet been explored to full potential.

Keeping this in mind, and also the fact that India have not settled on a number four yet, Vijay Shankar could possibly be the answer they are looking for.
