Home > News Shots > SportsRenowned umpire C Shamshuddin, got badly injured on the knee during the second day of the final match of the ongoing 86th season of the Ranji Trophy. A day after getting hurt, he failed to get back on the field as the pain increased.
According to an India Today report, Shamshuddin was ruled out as the on-field umpire after getting hit around the lower abdomen area during the match between Bengal and Saurashtra.
"Shamshuddin felt more pain in the night and went to the hospital in the morning for a check-up. He has been advised a week's rest," a Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) spokesperson told PTI.
The incident took place when Bengal pacer Akash Deep dismissed Saurashtra batsman Vishvaraj Jadeja at (54). During the wicket celebration, someone from behind the wickets threw the ball towards the square leg umpire (Shamshuddin).
At that time, the umpire was not looking towards the ball, which ended up getting him badly hurt. Shamshuddin's replacement, Yashwant Barde, will join the other umpires on day three.
