During the ongoing first Test between Australia and New Zealand in Perth on December 14, an on-field umpire was injured after colliding with all-rounder Mitchell Santner.
The umpire has been identified as Aleem Dar; he was the third individual to get injured during the Perth Test. The other two were New Zealand cricketer Lockie Ferguson and Australian cricketer Josh Hazlewood.
This incident took place during the third delivery of the 36th over; when New Zealand bowler Tim Southee, bowled a good length delivery to cricketer Marnus Labuschagne, who pushed it aside close to a fielder. Joe Burns, who was at the other end of the batting line wanted a single but Labuschagne was not ready so Burna had to rush back.
Looking at this, the fielders wanted to grab a run-out opportunity. Southee was quick to collect the ball and immediately threw it towards the stumps. He was covering up, when he ended colliding with umpire Dar and dropped him to the ground.
As per The Cricket Times report, Dar hurt his knee and had to be attended by the medical staff during the game. Surprisingly, Dar got treated by a New Zealand physiotherapist. Within few minutes, the umpire stood up and continued with the match.
Highlighting about the match, Australia lost wickets after Burns' departure and were left to 167/6. Meanwhile, bowler Tim Southee stole the limelight after taking four wickets.
