India lost the World Cup fight in the Semifinals against New Zealand and Kiwis qualified for Finals. Regardless of that one match, India showcased quality performance in the tournament.

One such player was Mohammed Shami, who was taken into the squad after Bhuvneshwar Kumar got injured in the match against Pakistan.
Shami, when it was least expected, took a hat-trick in the game against Afghanistan and helped India win the match in a close call. He picked up another 4 wickets against West Indies. Later, against England, he picked up 5 wickets but India lost the match.
Shami became the bowler with best strike-rate and best average for those with 6 wickets or more. He took 14 wickets in 4 matches, at an average of 13.78 and strike-rate of 15.
