In the all-important game to register their first win, Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to field first.
Virat Kohli and Parthiv Patel opened the innings for RCB and they got off to a safe start not losing wickets in the Power Play. Shreyas Gopal, was then brought into the attack who bowled an amazing spell to pick up Virat Kohli, Ab Devillers, and Shimron Hetmyer to break the middle order of the RCB. Marcus Stoinis joined Parthiv Patel who was going on very well who combined for a 53 run partnership. Patel got 67 from 41 balls before getting out in the 18th over. Moeen Ali and Stoinis finished off well to take RCB to 158 in the 20 overs, but the middle overs slump meant, they were 15-20 runs short from a match-winning score.
In return, Rahane and Buttler got the Royals off to a flyer scoring 55 in the Powerplay. Chahal came on to bowl and picked up Rahane straight away. He later also picked up Jos Buttler who played a very good innings of 59 runs from 43 balls, but the Royals were always in the game after the kind of start they got. Steve Smith and Rahul Tripathi made sure that they did not collapse in the middle overs. Smith after playing a steady innings, gave his wicket away in the last ball of the 19th over. Rahul Tripathi stayed till the end and finished off the match scoring 34 runs off 23 balls and got the Royals their first victory.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore have a lot to worry about after losing all four games. After being 15-20 runs short batting first, they needed a very tight effort in the second innings. However, they didn't start off well with the ball and also had a number of drop catches that didn't help their cause. According to experts, Virat Kohli and his bowlers were off tactically as well. After looking at Gopal's success in the first innings and Buttler's weakness against spin, they should have got in Chahal a lot earlier. The pace bowlers didn't hit their lengths as well which didn't help their cause. They should probably try and get Nathan Coulter-nile in for the next game to tighten the bowling attack.
