Located in Ahmedabad, the Motera Stadium was constructed in 1982 with a seating capacity of 49,000 at the time of construction. Now, the seating capacity has been increased to contain 110,000 spectators, beating the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, which has the seating capacity of 66,000 spectators. Worldwide, the Motera stadium beats the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The picture received the attention of BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, who took to Twitter to express his awe for the Motera stadium. He also stated that he was struck by the nostalgia of playing at Eden Gardens. Taking a nostalgic trip to his days as India captain, Sourav Ganguly said that he remembered those days when he played in the huge Eden Gardens stadium, while saying that he cannot wait to see the Motera stadium. He shared the BCCI’s picture and wrote on Twitter, “Lovely to see such a massive, pretty stadium .. Ahmedabad .. have great memories in this ground as a player, captain .. grew up at Eden with hundred thousand capacity .. (not any more).. can’t wait to see this on 24th.”
