Suresh Raina after winning the toss elected to bat first.
Rohit Sharma looked in good touch straight away but they lost Quinton De Kock early on. Rohit along with Lewis got a good partnership of 75 runs, but batting for tougher as the spinners came on. Santner in particular did a very good job. Rohit Sharma played very well and got 67 off 48 balls but once he fell, Hardik Pandya and Pollard finished the innings well and took the Mumbai Indians to 155 runs in the 20 overs. They would have felt that this was a par total but was defendable on this pitch.
Chennai Super Kings coming out to bat never got going as they kept losing wickets regularly. Murali Vijay was out there for a while as he got 38 from 35 balls but no one was able to push the scoring rate up. Spinners did the job for Mumbai Indians as the pacers also supported them very well and bowled out CSK for 109 which is Chennai lowest total at this venue getting bowled out.
It is to be noted that in the last 19 games played at Chennai, CSK has just lost 2 matches and both have been against the Mumbai Indians.
CSK will look at their batting effort and will want more players to take up responsibility and bat through. MI will be happy after comprehensively beating CSK by 46 runs which is their second biggest loss.
