WATCH VIDEO: ROBIN UTHAPPA WAS CAUGHT ACCIDENTALLY APPLYING SALIVA ON BALL DURING KKRVRR MATCH
Home > News Shots > SportsDuring Wednesday's IPL 2020 match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), cricketer Robin Uthappa was spotted applying saliva on the ball while fielding.
Earlier in June 2020, the International Cricket Council (ICC) had banned the use of saliva on the cricket ball as a precautionary measure against coronavirus, looks like this rule had apparently slipped from Rajasthan Royals player Uthappa’s mind during the match.
This incident took place in the third over when Uthappa dropped an easy catch after opening batsman Sunil Narine played a lofted shot in an attempt to clear the in-field. This incident was caught on camera and has been making headlines ever since, even fans were surprised to see him do so.
As per ICC, a team can be issued up to two warnings per innings but repeated use of saliva on the ball will result in a 5-run penalty to the batting side.
Talking about the match, KKR made 174 runs on the scoreboard. Apart from Gill, Eoin Morgan scored crucial 34 runs, and Andre Russell contributed with 24 runs in 14 balls, which included three sixes.
While, Royals crumbled down against a quality bowling attack of Knight Riders. Curran became the major highlight as he was unbeaten at 54 for RR in batting as they reached 137/9 in 20 overs.
