On Tuesday, wicketkeeper/batsman Rishabh Pant was named ICC Men's Emerging Cricketer of the Year in the world body's annual awards. Pant was picked post his amazing performance in his Test matches in 2018.
Pant was the first Indian wicket-keeper to score a Test century in England and equalled the record for the most catches taken in a Test, with 11 in Adelaide in December. While there is certainly heavy expectations over Pant's future endeavours, Virat Kohli stole the limelight this year.
Kohli bagged the top honours of the ICC Awards, including the ODI Cricketer of the Year, the Test Cricketer of the Year and the 2018 Cricketer of the Year. Kohli was also named the Captain of ICC Test Team of the Year and the Captain of ICC Men's ODI Team of the Year.
Australian Opener Aaron Finch won the ICC Men’s T20I Performance of the Year award for his record-breaking innings of 172 off 76 balls against Zimbabwe in Harare. New Zealand Captain Kane Williamson was honoured with the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award 2018.
Scotland's Calum McLeod was named the ICC Associate Cricketer of the Year and Sri Lankan Umpire Kumar Dharmasena bagged the David Shepherd Trophy for the ICC Umpire of the Year 2018.
India winning the ICC U19 World Cup in New Zealand was voted the Fans' Moment of the Year with 4 per cent votes. The second place went to Afghanistan's comeback at the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier.
