The Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and elected to field first.
RCB batting first lost Parthiv Patel and Akhsdeep Nath for not many runs. But Kohli was composed as Moeen Ali came in and played with aggressive intent. Moeen Ali kept going after the bowling including 26 runs off Kuldeep Yadav who finished with 59 runs in four overs. They went on to get a 90 runs partnership as Moeen Ali got out. Virat Kohli who was determined to perform well got to his 5th IPL 100 off just 57 balls. He paced his innings very well as he got his first 50 in 40 balls and his second 50 in just 17 balls. Marcus Stoinis also played a good cameo getting 17 off 8 balls to take RCB to a massive total of 213 in the 20 overs.
The Kolkata Knight Riders coming out to chase didn't have a good start as they lost 3 wickets early for just 33 runs. Robin Uthappa coming in at number 4 scored 9 from 20 balls that took RCB to a comfortable position in the match. Nitish Rana started slowly as well but caught up, in the end, scoring 85 from 46 balls, along with Andre Russell who played yet another inhuman innings scoring 65 off just 25 balls smashing 9 massive sixes. Even this effort from Russell was not good enough on the day after KKR's sluggish start and ended up losing the match by 10 runs.
RCB will feel happy to have won the game despite Russell having another great day. They will still like to execute their skills better in the slog overs. KKR, on the other hand, had a forgettable day on the field and didn't show enough intent with the bat early on to cover up for that. Andre Russell's heroic effort took them closer than they should have and they will now feel the pressure of qualifications.
