Ever since the 2019 World Cup ended, there has been a number of rumours on the future of wicket-keeper and former captain MS Dhoni. He has not been in action on the field since ICC World Cup 2019 but rather served the Indian Army as he had taken a sabbatical from cricket.
There has also been a number of videos and photos of Dhoni spending time with his family which has recently gone viral. But there has not been any update on Dhoni joining the team.
Recently at an interview with News18, Indian head coach Ravi Shastri dropped a hint on Dhoni’s future. He said that he had a conversation with Dhoni about his future and the former captain won’t be imposing himself on the team.
"I have had a conversation with MS and that is between us. He has finished his Test career, he may soon end his ODI career. So he will be left with T20, he will definitely play the IPL. One thing I know about Dhoni is that he will not impose himself on the team. But if he has a cracking IPL, well, then...," Shastri told News18.
"We will have to consider a person’s experience and form. They will bat in the number 5-6 position. If Dhoni plays well in IPL then he does put himself in contention," he further added.
Further talking about Pant and his form on the field, Shastri said that he is just 21 and will need time to improve and prove himself. Pant is also a match-winner and is working hard on his ability with the gloves, Shastri stated.
