Days after India Batsman Prithvi Shaw was suspended for eight months by the BCCI over doping violation, a report by DNA claims that public revelation of Shaw’s test result was deliberately delayed concerning Indian Premier League.
According to the report, the BCCI , in its official statement, has quoted that Shaw failed a dope test on February 22. But the National Dope Testing Laboratory did not make the result public within 10 days as per WADA clause 5.2.6.5 However, reports of other players Akshay Dullarwar and Divya Gajraj were released within the timeline.
Starting from March 15, Shaw has been banned until November mid of this year as per NDTL reports. Apparently the 19-year-old had played this year’s edition of Indian Premier League under ban. When questions on Shaw’s IPL participation despite the doping violation started surfacing, the BCCI said that unforeseen delay on part of NDTL has led to this confusion. The Sports Ministry, on the other hand, is preparing to take up the issue with BCCI. DNA in its report says that if either International Cricket Council or World Anti-Doping Agency appeals against Shaw’s IPL inclusion, he might even get a two-year ban.
The DNA report also claims that a reliable source in BCCI has told the paper there may be more cases of doping violation by cricketers pending at NDTL. “The result of at least 10 more cases are awaited by the board and in all cases cricketers pleaded to have taken the substance ‘inadvertently," the official has been quoted as saying.
