MUMBAI INDIANS CRICKETER 'REGRETS' A PROMISE MADE TO SUSHANT SINGH RAJPUT; IPL FRANCHISE POST TWEET!
Home > News Shots > SportsThe heart-breaking news of actor Sushant Singh Rajput's demise came as a huge shock to the world. Where fans and film fraternity are still trying to get over the big news, young cricketer Digvijay Deshmukh, who co-stared with Sushant in his debut movie in 'Kai Po Che' has a sad story to tell.
The movie 'Kai Po Che' was released in the year 2013 and Deshmukh had played the role of a budding cricketer who was mentored by Rajput’s character - Ishaan.
Deshmukh, was roped in by Mumbai Indians in the 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) season. He was all set to feature in the 2020 tournament for the most successful team. While speaking to Hindustan Times, Deshmukh said "He was passionate about cricket. On the last day of the shoot, I had promised him I’d not meet him till I became a decent level cricketer. This year, when I got selected to play for Mumbai Indians, I decided to meet him but then the lockdown happened and now he is no more."
"Even then I did not meet him because I wanted to keep the promise. I regret it. I was 15 then and I shot with him for six months. He would ask me to come to his room after the shoot got over, and train me with scenes and camera angles,” Digvijay revealed.
Further regretting not meeting Sushant, the young cricketer said he was supposed to meet the ace actor but then the lockdown happened and the duo couldn’t reunite. "He (Sushant) was very involved. He was very friendly, happy and jovial and so passionate about his work. Even though he was such a big name, he would ask me about cricket since I was already a professional cricketer then," the young cricketer finally added.
After the news went viral, top IPL franchise Mumbai Indians took to social media platform and posted a heartfelt caption and photograph. “Whenever Kai Po Che’s ‘Ali’ takes field next, his master ‘Ishaan’ will smile from the heavens," the post read.
According to Times Now report, Digvijay has represented Maharashtra in 1 First-Class match and 7 List-A matches so far. Sushant Singh Rajput, who died by suicide on June 14, was cremated in Mumbai at Vile Parle's Pawan Hans crematorium on June 15 amidst heavy rain.
