MS Dhoni is the only Indian cricketer, at least in the recent times if not in the history who has expressed his interest to serve the Indian Army. Needless to say that his contribution to the Indian team is unprecedented so far and the Jersy No: 7 holder is all set to head to Kashmir to be deployed in the Kashmir valley as part of Victor Force.
As per India Today, Dhoni’s plan to join the Indian Army for his intended purpose was in the list for a long time but it could not be accomplished due to the former skipper’s commitment with the Indian Cricket Team. On July 24 (Wednesday), Dhoni joined a battalion which is headquartered in Bengaluru and started his two-month training with the Indian Army's Parachute Regiment.
Begining from 31st July to August 15, Lieutenant Colonel (Honorary) MS Dhoni will be deployed as a part of victor force in the Kashmir Valley. He will stay with the troops and assume the duties of patrolling, guard and post duty.
"Just like Dhoni has been one of the greatest servants of Indian cricket, his love for the armed forces is also wellknown. This idea that he would go and spend time with his regiment was in the pipeline for a while but it took a backseat due to his cricketing commitments. This will also help increase awareness among the youth about the armed forces and that is what Dhoni wants," a source was quoted as saying to IANS by India Today.
Reportedly the former Indian Skipper had expressed his interest to serve with the armed battalion forces. However, his request was politely refused by the authorities owing to the concern of his safety.
