Probably the impact of Sachin Tendulkar’s caught & bowled wicket by Australia's legendary Glenn Mcgrath in 2003 World Cup Finals would have been carried over to Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s run out by Martin Guptill in 2019 World Cup Semifinal against New Zealand. MSD’s bat was short of barely a few inches to reach the crease and Guptill’s direct hit not just broke the bails but also the hope of millions of Indian Cricket fans around the globe.
When New Zealand played against England in the mega 2019 World Cup Finals, Martin Guptill again turned up, but this time in favour of England. Guptill's throw from deep mid-wicket region struck Ben Stokes's bat who dived hard at the striker's end in the final over of England's chase while the team needing 9 to win off 3 balls. The ball raced away to the boundary behind the wicketkeeper. Umpire Dharmasena counted it as 6 runs and the rest is history.
While the entire cricketing fraternity was taken aback by surprise, emotions and unbelievable history ever recorded in World Cup, somehow Martin Guptill was lost without being noticed. The kiwi batsman broke his silence after a week and shared an emotional writeup via his Instagram account.
"Hard to believe it's been a week since that incredible Final at Lords. I think it was both the best and worst day of my cricketing life! So many different emotions, but mainly proud to represent New Zealand and play for the Black Caps alongside a great group of mates. Thank you to everyone for all your support, it has been amazing," Guptill posted with one of the pictures that trended most after the WC 19 finals.
