LEGENDARY WEST INDIES BATSMAN DIES AT THE AGE OF 95!

Legendary West Indies batsman Sir Everton Weekes passed away aged 95 on Wednesday. He had suffered a heart attack in 2019 and had been unwell since then.

Legendary West Indies Cricketer Everton Weekes dies at the age of 95!

Everton Weekes along with Clyde Walcott and Frank Worrell, the Barbados-born trio are popularly known as ‘the three Ws’ that dominated world cricket especially in the post- war era. Weekes is known as the best batsman among the three and has played 48 Tests for the West Indies. 

He scored a total of 4455 runs at an average of 58.62 in his Test career between 1948 and 1958. He scored 12,010 runs in 152 matches at an average of 55.32. 

He also holds the world record for most number of consecutive hundreds hit in Test Cricket. He hit 5 against England and India in 1948. 

Indian Batsman VVS Laxman was among others who expressed their condolences on twitter. 

“Weekes was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame in 2009. He was awarded a knighthood in 1995. The Three Ws Oval at the University of the West Indies in Barbados is named after the famous trio,” India Today reported.
