During an intense game between Sri Lanka and Australia at the second T20I in Brisbane a small incident is making headlines all over. It was during the 13th over of the Australian innings, Sri Lanka’s Lakshan Sandakan made a hilarious school boy mistake.
It was like a ‘brain-fade moment’ for Sri Lanka’s bowler Lakshan, who failed to run out Steve Smith despite the batsman being outside of his crease.
In the video that is going viral, David Warner can be seen as batsman on strike. He played the second delivery of the over straight back to the bowler who went on to hit the stumps. Soon after a delivery, Smith ran to complete a single, but Warner was not ready.
In the meantime, bowler Sandakan quickly took the ball and hit the stumps. The hilarious part here is, instead of hitting on the stumps with the ball in his hand, he uprooted it with one hand and the ball in the other and shouted for a run-out.
As per the rules, if the bails are already dislodged, the fielding side has to uproot the stumps with the ball in hand. This moment made everyone laugh on the field, even the batsman were seen laughing.
The umpires on the field did not want to take any chances so left the decision on the third umpire, who declared him not-out. This totally shows that, Sandakan made a “schoolboy mistake” and also missed an easy chance to run Smith out.
During the match, Warner and Smith both made half-centuries. The Australian easily stumped Sri Lanka by nine wickets to clinch the three-match series.
