Home > News Shots > SportsSri Lankan batsman has been arrested by the police for running over a pedestrian. The pedestrian has succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning.
Kusal Mendis’s car hit a 64-year-old man who was riding his bicycle during the early hours of July 5. The man was a local resident. After the accident, he was rushed to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately he passed away.
The cricketer is to be presented before a magistrate later today. His arrest has come in the time of Sri Lankan crickets being embroiled in controversy. Earlier on Friday, the former Sri Lankan captain was suspected of match-fixing in the 2011 World Cup finals against India.
The interrogation lasted for over 10 hours. Along with the former captain Sangakara, Mahela Jayawardene and Aravinda De Silva were also questioned. However, they ultimately closed the investigation as the Sri Lankan Sports Ministry did not have enough evidence.
