Former Indian cricketer and CSK's chief selector in 2008 VB Chandrasekhar reportedly revealed that N Srinivasan wanted explosive batsman Virender Sehwag over MS Dhoni in 2008. “Before the auctions in 2008, Mr N Srinivasan asked me, “Who are you going to pick?” I said Dhoni. He asked, “Why not Virender Sehwag?”, revealed Chandrasekhar. However, Chandrasekhar convinced Srinivasan to go for Dhoni. “The next day morning, he came and said, “Go get Dhoni”, added Chandrasekhar.
