SHANE WATSON ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT FROM ‘ALL FORMS OF CRICKET’; READ HOW THE 'EMOTIONAL STAR' BROKE THE NEWS TO CSK TEAMMATES
Home > News Shots > SportsVeteran cricketer and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opening batsman Shane Watson made headlines with big news after he reportedly brought down curtains on his career.
Watson, 39, reportedly made the announcement after CSK defeated Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in their last league game of IPL 2020 on Sunday. This big decision came to his CSK teammates at the end of the team's journey in IPL 2020 in Abu Dhabi.
According to Times of India, Watson has told his teammates that he would be hanging his boots from all formats of the game. He had already retired from international cricket when Chennai had roped him in 2018 at the mega auction.
Other than CSK, Watson also played for Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and played a pivotal role in helping RR win their maiden IPL title in 2008.
"Watson was very emotional when he told the CSK dressing room after the last game that he would retire. He said that it was a great privilege for him to play for the franchise," a source told TOI.
Meanwhile, reports also speculate that Watson might be added to the CSK support staff as the management is looking to rebuild for the 2021 season.
"He has always done very well against us, and Dhoni knows how important a player he could be if he is used properly at the top of the order," a CSK official had said.
In IPL 2020, Shane Watson played 11 games and scored 299 runs with the help of two fifties. After joining the franchise in 2018, he managed to carve his place in CSK’s cricket history by scoring a century in the final of the 2018 IPL, which helped the team win their third title and first since 2011.
