With Kolkata gearing up to host the auction for the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the BCCI is planning to make some changes to schedule and match-timings, if a report by Indian Express is to be believed.
According to the plan, each team will play only one day-game in the tournament and double-headers are likely to be restricted to weekends, meaning that the tournament will last for 60 days rather than the usual 45-day window.
Having a 7 pm start for night matches is also on the list, as many former cricketers including Sunil Gavaskar have expressed concern over late finishes.
"There is a plan in place of playing more games at night. If it is passed, each team will have to play only one game in the afternoon. Teams who play in the north face heatwaves and conditions get more difficult. There is a plan of using all 60 days instead of wrapping up the IPL in 45 days. The IPL GC has to approve it," a source was quoted as saying by India TV.
