The BCCI, today ( September 12), announced the 15-member squad for team India’s 3-match Test series against South Africa.
KL Rahul whose recent form raised doubts and questions has been replaced with 20-year-old Shubam Gill who averages 72.15 from 14 first-class matches. As chief selector MSK Prasad has earlier confirmed, regular ODI opener Rohit Sharma will don the same role in Tests as well.
The squad include: Virat Kohli ( C ), Mayank Agarwal, Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane ( VC ), Hanuma Vihari, Rishab Pant ( WK ), Wriddhiman Saha ( WK ), R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma and Shubham Gill.
The first Test starts on October 2 in Vishakapatnam before the series moves to Pune and Ranchi.
It is to be noted that the last time India met South Africa in early 2018, the former suffered a 1 – 2 loss. However, in 2015, India won against South Africa when Virat captained India for a full Test series for the first time.
