In a first of its kind, the One Day International match taking place between India and New Zealand in NZ had to be paused due to harsh sunlight.
Reportedly, the sun shining down the Napier wicket was too bright for the batsmen, fielder and umpires. Senior umpire Shaun George had to remove the players when India was 44 for one in response to NZ's 157.
While rain is a very common reason for match delays, harsh sunlight is very new. According to George, this is the first time he experienced play called off due to the sun. The match resumed after about 30 minutes.
India won the first ODI by eight wickets against New Zealand. The second ODI match will be held on Saturday.
