Looking into the score, Glenn Maxwell made (108) and Alex Carey made (106) to win over hosts England in the third and final Royal London One Day International (ODI) at Old Trafford. During the match, Mitchell Starc hit a four for the winning runs as the Australians consigned England to its first loss in a bilateral ODI series at home since 2015.
The visitors were down and out at one stage with 73/5 on the board after which came a record sixth-wicket stand of 212 runs held between Maxwell and Carey. Their partnership took the game away from England, who suffered their first home ODI series defeat in five years.
It was a win-win day for Maxwell, as he reached his ODI career’s 3000-runs landmark and became the fastest man to score 3,000 runs in the 50-over format. He also became just the sixth man to reach 3,000 ODI runs at a strike-rate exceeding 100 and reached the landmark at a remarkable strike-rate of 122.95.
Finally to say, England won the T20 series against Australia 2-1.
