Home > News Shots > SportsBefore the start of the much awaited game between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians (MI), former skipper Gautam Gambhir shared his prediction about Marcus Stoinis for the ongoing IPL 2020 final. He had picked Stoinis as captain of his fantasy XI.
After Gambhir’s prediction went viral, he was backfired as fans brutally trolled him. While speaking to cricket.com, the former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper said that Stoinis has started opening the batting and he bowls as well.
“He has now started opening the batting and he bowls as well and if Delhi goes with the same playing eleven, then he is their third seamer. He will be bowling three or four overs as well and what’s better than having someone who can bowl three or four overs and can open the batting,” said Gautam Gambhir.
“Not many all-rounders have done that apart from Ben Stokes and the moment Ben Stokes got it into form, I picked him as captain as well. That’s the reason I have gone with someone like Marcus Stoinis,” he added.
Gambhir commented on Stoinis after his fine performance in the last two games, during Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2. In Qualifier 1, Stoinis had played a fighting knock against Mumbai although Delhi had lost the game. He had scored 65 off 46 balls and also grabbed a wicket to his name.
Meanwhile in Qualifier 2 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Stoinis, who opened the batting, had scored 38 runs before taking 3 wickets.
But on the main day against MI, Stoinis failed to deliver; as he got out for a first ball duck after Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to bat first. The incident happened when the Delhi star edged a Trent Boult delivery behind the stumps. And as soon as the wicket fell, the fans took to Twitter to troll Gautam Gambhir.
