Mahendra Singh had completed his two weeks stint with the territorial Army. Beginning from 31st July to August 15, Lieutenant Colonel (Honorary) MS Dhoni was deployed as a part of victor force in the Kashmir Valley. He stayed with the troops and assumed the duties of patrolling guard and post duty.
According to the TOI report, Dhoni met his wife Sakshi and daughter Ziva in New Delhi after returning from his duty with the Indian Army. Earlier, a video of Dhoni playing cricket with kids at Ladakh on the eve of 73rd Independence Day of India went viral on the internet.
MS Dhoni is the only Indian cricketer, at least in the recent times if not in the history who has expressed his interest to serve the Indian Army. Needless to say that his contribution to the Indian team is unprecedented so far. The Jersey No: 7 holder could be expected to guide the Indian Team in the future irrespective of his presence in the playing XI as said by MSK Prasad earlier in an interview.
In fact, Dhoni’s plan to join the Indian Army for his intended purpose was on the list for a long time but it could not be accomplished due to the former skipper’s commitment with the Indian Cricket Team. On July 24 (Wednesday), Dhoni joined a battalion which is headquartered in Bengaluru and started his two-month training with the Indian Army's Parachute Regiment.
