Former Indian Captain Saurav Ganguly will take charge as the president of BCCI at the Annual General Meeting on October 23 and he will talk about Mahendra Singh Dhoni's future with the selectors.
It's been a brief break for Dhoni after World Cup 2019 and he will not be playing in the upcoming T20 series against Bangladesh as well. Also, the selectors have announced that they are considering Team India's growth heading towards World T20 and MSD might not be a priority.
However, Saurav Ganguly aka "Dada" who was one of the primary reasons for MSD's entry into the Indian team will talk to the selectors after becoming the president of BCCI. "I will find out from the selectors when I meet them on October 24. We will find out what the selectors are thinking and then I will put forth my opinion," Ganguly was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
Ganguly also stated, he will talk to Dhoni himself and discuss with him regarding his future plans. "We will have to see what Dhoni wants. I will also speak to him what he wants to do and what he does not want to do" Said Ganguly at Eden Gardens. Dhoni is fondly called ‘Thala’ by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans who also have a fair belief on Ganguly’s judgement based on Dada-Thala past bonding.
It has to be mentioned that, Dhoni honoured Ganguly in his last test match by requesting him to captain the team for the one last time in 2008. It was against Australia in Nagpur and India won the match by 172 runs. “As the match came to a close, Mahendra Singh Dhoni in a surprise gesture asked me to lead. I had rejected his offer earlier in the day, but could not refuse a second time,” Ganguly wrote in his autobiography book, “A Century is Not Enough”.
