"CSK SHOULD RELEASE MS DHONI FOR IPL 2021 MEGA AUCTION," SAYS AAKASH CHOPRA; EXPLAINS WHY?
Home > News Shots > SportsFormer cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra is again in the news and this time for his expert analysis on Chennai Super Kings (CSK). His recent opinion revolved around CSK and MS Dhoni.
In a bit surprising statements, Chopra asserted how CSK should not retain Dhoni for the 14th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL).
Further in his statement, he said if the mega auction takes place ahead of IPL 2021, then CSK should let go of Thala.
Meanwhile as per the player retention scheme, if CSK retains MS Dhoni in the team, then a big amount of Rs 15 crore would go off from their budget.
To which the former cricketer feels that having spent such a big amount on MS Dhoni, the team would not be able to build up their squad.
“I think CSK should release MS Dhoni going into the mega auction, if there is a mega auction, then you will be with that player for three years. But will Dhoni stay with you for three years? I am not saying don’t keep Dhoni, he will play the next IPL, but if you keep him as a retained player but you will have to pay Rs 15 crore,” said Chopra in his video on Facebook.
Further in the video, he opined that CSK should send Dhoni in the auction and get him back through the ‘Right to Match’ card. Meanwhile, with that big amount, the Yellow Army can do their squad planning from the very beginning.
“If Dhoni does not stay with you for three years and he plays just the 2021 season, you will get the Rs 15 crore back for the 2022 edition, but how will you find a player worth that Rs 15 crore? That’s the advantage of a mega auction, you can create a big team if you have the money. If you release Dhoni for the mega auction, you can pick him with the right to match card, and you can pick the right players by having the desired money in your kitty,” Chopra added.
Later in the video, he also stated that out of all the teams in IPL, CSK need the mega auction big time after their poor performance in the recently concluded IPL season.
