Home > News Shots > SportsThe match between Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) was a thrilling one. It was also Chris Gayle's first march of IPL 2020, where he scored a crucial 53 runs and helped the team to win by eight wickets.
Fans also witnessed some splendid performances from openers KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal, even Mohammed Shami did a good job on the field.
The highlight of the game was none other than Gayle, who smashed 53 runs in 45 balls and was the match winner for his team.
Soon after reaching his half century, Gayle was seen pointing towards ‘The Boss’ sign on his bat. During post-match presentation, the explosive batsman revealed what he meant by that gesture and message.
“It was a very sticky surface, very slow, but it was better batting second. Team asked me to do a job at 3 and it wasn’t an issue. Openers been batting well throughout the tournament and we didn’t want to disturb that. Like I said, I was given a job and took it,” Gayle said on why he came to bat at no. 3.
"All I wanted to say was put some respect on the name," Gayle added on the boss sign gesture. Soon after that, he and the commentators shared a laugh when he was told he had held the sticker upside down.
Even, Indian head coach Ravi Shastri in an exclusive interview to NDTV, called Gayle as one of the great characters of the game. "He is one of the great characters of the game. He lights up the tournament. He will be remembered as one of the greatest entertainers to have played the game," Shastri told NDTV.
Currently, KL Rahul and team need to win all their remaining games to stand a chance to make it to the play-offs. They will next lock horns with Mumbai Indians at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on October 18.
