England Cricketer Ben Stokes, on Tuesday, has issued a statement on being nominated for New Zealander of the year award alongside Kiwi Skipper Kane Williamson.
The New Zealand born Cricketer is apparently happy about the nomination but has an opinion that Williamson deserves the title more. “I’m flattered to be nominated for New Zealander of the year. (But) I feel the country should align their support to New Zealand Captain Kane Williamsion.”, his statement read.
According to Stokes, he has helped England lift a World Cup and his life has been firmly established in the UK since he was 12. There are people who have contributed a lot for New Zealand and they deserve this recognistion.
He has hailed Williamson as an inspirational leader of men. “He should be revered as a Kiwi legend. He led his team in this World Cup with distinction and honour. He shows humility and empathy to every situation and is an all-round good bloke.”, his statement further read. At last, he has also mentioned that Williamson gets his vote for the title.
England became World Champions in Cricket on July 14 after beating New Zealand on the basis of most number of boundaries.
