IS DECCAN CHARGERS COMING BACK IN IPL? BCCI ASKED TO PAY RS 4,800 CRORE FOR 'WRONGFUL TERMINATION' 

Amid the coax and wait for hosting the IPL 2020, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been ordered to pay Rs 4,800 crore to Deccan Chronicles Holding Ltd (DCHL) over the termination of the company's Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise team (Deccan Chargers).

This report went viral after a DCHL lawyer claimed the fact as per an arbitrator. The lawyer in his report further added that the arbitrator also held the termination of the franchise as illegal.

As per India Today reports, on August 11, 2012, BCCI issued a show-cause notice for termination of Deccan Chargers. As per the lawyer, the termination took place a day before the 30-day expiry period of the granted to respond to the notice. After which, DCHL (Deccan Chargers) approached the Bombay High Court and appealed that their termination was arbitrary.

Then in September 2012, the Bombay High Court also appointed retired Supreme Court Justice C K Thakker as the sole Arbitrator to determine the matter, India Today further added. 

"The sole arbitrator on Friday upheld the termination to be illegal and granted damages to the tune of Rs 630 crores and compensation to DCHL to the tune of Rs 4,160 crores," Maneesha Dhir, Managing Partner of Dhir & Dhir Associates, who appeared for DCHL said as per The Indian Express.

"DCHL has also been granted Rs 36 crore as an admitted amount payable under the Franchise Agreement," he further added.

Currently, fans are speculating the return of Deccan Chargers in IPL 2020. They were last seen in IPL 2012 and won the second edition of the tournament in 2009.
