BCCI TO ADD 'NEW TEAM' FOR IPL 2021; MEGA AUCTIONS TO TAKE PLACE- DETAILS HERE
Home > News Shots > SportsA day after the thirteenth edition of the IPL, the BCCI has started planning for the next season of the tournament. Meanwhile, the much awaited IPL 2020 concluded with the battle between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on November 10.
As fans are still not over MI's victory and their thrilling win, there are reports that in IPL 2021 there would be a new team added to the slot. Yes, you heard it right! According to a report in The Hindu, the BCCI is likely to conduct a full auction before the next year’s tournament gets underway.
“The BCCI has told us to be prepared for an auction in a couple of months. Though it is not official, that they have asked us to be ready means they will go ahead as planned. Moreover, with a new team coming in, it makes sense to have an auction now rather than deferring it by a year,” a franchise official told TNIE.
“The retention policy should continue even if a new team comes in because at this stage, it won’t be wise to have all players in the auction pool. Teams will have to compromise on brand value which is built on their star players,” said another franchise official.
The BCCI are also reportedly going ahead with their original plan of conducting a mega auction. One of the reasons behind holding the mega auction is the introduction of a new IPL team for the next season, The Hindu further added.
As the BCCI is planning to add another team to the IPL, the franchise is likely to be based in Ahmedabad. Meanwhile, a corporate giant will be coming forward to bag the franchise.
Talking about the IPL final, Mumbai Indians thrashed Delhi Capitals by five wickets to win the tournament for the 5th time.
