BCCI PRESIDENT SOURAV GANGULY SHARES 'WORRYING' UPDATE ON ROHIT SHARMA'S INJURY - REPORT
Home > News Shots > SportsWeeks after Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma’s name was not included in India’s squads for the tour of Australia after he suffered a hamstring injury, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has given a worrying update on Rohit's injury.
The Mumbai Indians captain suffered a hamstring injury while playing against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the just concluded IPL 2020. Meanwhile, the BCCI President hinted that the opener is nowhere close to being fully fit.
Days back, Rohit Sharma returned to action and played three consecutive games for MI. He even looked fine on the field and scored a match-winning fifty in the IPL 2020 final. However, Ganguly has stated that the right-handed batsman is still only “70 percent” fit.
Recently, when Ganguly was questioned about Rohit playing for his franchise but being left out of the India’s squads, he replied saying, “Rohit is still 70 percent [fit],” Ganguly told in an interview with The Week.
“Why don’t you find out from Rohit himself? That is why he is still not picked for the ODIs and T20s down under. He has been added to the Test squad,” he added.
After days of discussion, Rohit Sharma was added to India’s Test squads for the tour but was left out of the ODI and the T20I squads as a precautionary measure. Currently, he has returned to India and is expected to undergo rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru before joining the India squad in Australia.
Meanwhile, the rest of the team left for Australia from the UAE on Wednesday. However, Ganguly had earlier also advised Rohit not to rush his comeback after the batsman was seen training in the nets before the IPL 2020 playoffs. “Rohit is injured at the moment. Otherwise, why would we leave out a player like him? He is the vice-captain of the national (limited-overs) team,” Ganguly had said.
“We will have to assess him. I don’t know (when he can come back). He hasn’t played so far since the time he has got injured. We want him to recover. It’s the BCCI’s job to get their best players on the park. If he recovers, he plays,” he had added.
