The Supreme Court on Friday upheld the high court’s decision to hang the four accused in the Nirbhaya rape case, five years since the tragic incident. Four of the six accused, Akshay Thakur, Vinay Sharma, Pawan Gupta and Mukesh were awarded death sentence by a local court in 2013, a decision that was confirmed by the High Court. Notably, Ram Singh, the other accused committed suicide in 2013, while the sixth convict was just months short of 18 when he participated in the horrific crime and was tried under the juvenile law.
