A private firm has acquired 2,500 acres of land near Madurantakam and has proposed to build a second airport in the city, say reports. While the firm is in talks with ministry of aviation, AAI says it's up to government to decide whether the airport should be fully private or under partnership with the private. Stating that the location is well within the criteria, an AAI official reportedly said a study “will decide whether birds will be a risk for flights” as the land was close to Vedanthangal bird sanctuary.
