Animal rights organisation PETA has reportedly asked the Puducherry government to send Manakula Vinayagar temple elephant Lakshmi to a sanctuary. According to reports, PETA pleaded that Lakshmi needs veterinary care as it suffered from foot rot disease. PETA also quoted an AWBI report, which revealed that the custody of Lakshmi by Sri Manakula Vinayagar temple is illegitimate.
