Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam has reportedly declared the state drought-hit and has announced many sops for farmers including land tax waiver for farmers. Families of 17 farmers who committed suicide will get Rs 3 lakh each as compensation. He also reportedly announced Rs 160 crore and Rs 350 crore worth measures to mitigate water crisis in urban and rural local bodies respectively. Notably, Tamil Nadu witnessed a shortfall of 19% and 61% rain in southwest and northeast monsoon, respectively.
