Crunchbase inaugural study on female founder has revealed that only 17% of startups have a female founder. Crunchbase studied 43,008 startups globally to address the issue of women being represented in tech when it comes to founders. From 2009 to 2012, the number of such startups grew by 8% to approximately 17%. The number of companies with a female founder grew more than fivefold, from 176 in 2009 to 932 in 2016. Reports suggest that the rate will grow as more women-founded startups with an initial funding are added to Crunchbase over the next year.
