According to reports, following the attempts by insurgents to occupy the capital city, about 200 NATO troops consisting mainly Italians have been deployed in Afghanistan's western province of Farah. The troops will reportedly train, advise and assist local forces for around a week. The US had earlier reportedly announced that it would deploy around 300 marines in the southern province of Helmand.
