According to reports, American tech major Microsoft on Wednesday announced that it has ended support for Windows Phone 8.1 just over three years after its April 2014 debut, marking the end of the Windows Phone OS. This move would reportedly render nearly 80% of all Windows phones obsolete, as only 20% run on the company's latest Windows 10 Mobile OS. Notably, Windows Phone was considered Microsoft's response to Android and iOS.
