Amid this crucial time of wearing facial masks and carrying hand sanitisers, eye care specialists in India have stressed that the deadly virus can transmit through the eyes too. Taking care of your eyes now, is mandatory- it has become a preventive measure against the deadly coronavirus pandemic.
So people, who wear contact lenses should avoid wearing them for sometime to stop its spread. As per a Hindustan Times report, opthalmologists point out the need for wearing glasses and taking good care of the eyes to reduce the risk of the virus.
“One of the rare manifestations of COVID-19 is a pink eye or conjunctivitis. Sometimes, patients may not have a fever, cold, cough, or any other symptom other than mild conjunctivitis. These COVID-19 patients can also experience loss of smell and loss of taste,” said Ikeda Lal, ophthalmologist at Delhi Eye Centre and Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi.
Meanwhile, in a research published in the New England Journal of Medicine, it was stated that among 1,099 patients across 30 different Chinese hospitals, nine had “conjunctival congestion”.
The expert further say that, those who wear contact lenses have a tendency of rubbing their eyes quite often, which can harm an individual further:
- So everyone is advised to wear glasses when they step out of the house and those who wear contact lenses should switch to glasses immediately.
- Many who are working from home or binge watching series during this lockdown are advised to intentionally increase your blink rate.
- Whenever you get time, try to put some lubricating eye drops or keep your eyes moist even by splashing water into the eye.
