Gujarat Assembly on Friday reportedly passed Gujarat Animal Preservation (Amendment) Act, 2017. According to this law, anyone found guilty of cow slaughter can be imprisoned for life. The bill also has provisions to impose financial penalty between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 5 lakh for cow slaughter. Gujarat Minister Pradipsinh Jadeja reportedly told that the amendments to the act had been made "in consultation with the people."
