Kerala government on Monday reportedly started planting one crore saplings as a part of its ‘Haritha Keralam (Green Kerala)’ mission. Kerala government started the mission to mark the occasion of World Environment Day. According to reports, about 47 lakh school students planted saplings on Monday. Government offices and social organisations are also reported to join the campaign. Notably, Kerala has lost almost 50% of its forest area since 1973.
