According to reports, the Kolayadu gram panchayat refuses to issue marriage certificates if the wedding goes against their efforts in improving the environment. Kolayadu intents to cut down plastic usage and hence, in November 2017, came up with an initiative called 'Malinyamillatha Mangalyam' (wedding without any waste). As per their rules, a document showing proof that the wedding was plastic free has to be attested so as to get a marriage certificate.
