Customs Department have arrested a youth at the airport for smuggling 15.42 lakh worth of gold under his wig. This incident has shocked many.
An Indigo flight arrived at Lucknow Airport, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, from Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, early last Sunday morning. A young man from Uttar Pradesh who was traveling in it was found suspicious by the customs officials.
He has since been questioned by authorities. The information he provided at the time shocked the authorities there.
Wig
An airport official said: "On the basis of passenger profiling, the accused was intercepted while walking through the green channel. During his personal search, it was observed that he was wearing a wig. On removing his wig, it was found that a pouch made of black tape containing gold compound was glued to the top of his scalp."
For the money
Commenting on the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Customs Ajay Kumar Misra said, "Our team has been monitoring the smuggling of gold by youths for the last 5 months. The youths have been involved in such smuggling for 15 to 20,000 rupees. The gold seized from them has been handed over to higher authorities."
Following this, the customs officials arrested the youth from Meerut area who had smuggled gold under his wig.
