The 22 closed rooms of the Taj Mahal, one of the wonders of the world, are currently under controversy. Rajnish Kumar of the BJP had recently filed a welfare case in the Allahabad High Court. He petitioned that a committee be set up to inspect the 20 rooms in the Taj Mahal and to find evidence of the presence of Hindu idols and scriptures there. However, the High Court dismissed the petition.
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has released pictures of some of the rooms in the Taj Mahal. Extensive renovations are underway on these closed rooms, including plaster and lime wardrobe. According to the Archaeological Department, Rs 6 lakh has been spent on the restoration work.
RK Patel, head of the Agra division of the Archaeological Survey of India, said, "Anyone can view photos of the 22 underground chambers of the Taj Mahal on the Archaeological Survey of India website." RK Patel also said that more than 20,000 tourists visited the Taj Mahal on weekends.
