Home > News Shots > IndiaThe Uttar Pradesh Police found a headless body of a woman on a field in Meerut’s Lohia village. Her arms were severed when she was found by the police on June 14, 2019.
Police were clueless about the identity of this young woman from Ludhiana who was a B com student. The police registered a murder case against unknown persons and commenced investigation.
After almost a year, the UP Police claim that they have finally solved the mystery behind this sensational murder and arrested six people in association to the case. The main accused has been identified as Shakib.
The arrest unveiled a tale of love, revenge and deception which eventually led to the murder of the 19-year-old girl.
Shakib allegedly befriended her by using a fake name and identity as ‘Aman’.
Meerut SSP Ajay Sahni told the media on Tuesday that ascertaining the victim through her body was difficult since she was found in a beheaded state.
According to him the police started bringing working mobile numbers in the UP Village under the radar and found a number which was not registered in UP but in Ludhiana.
The police even went through data of District Crime Records Bureau and State Crime Records Bureau but they couldn’t find a lead. A breakthrough was finally found in Ludhiana.
The girl was identified as a resident of Motinagar area in Ludhiana. Her family told that she disappeared with her jewelry in the month of May and felt that she might have eloped with her lover ‘Aman’.
Shakib was working at a shop that sold talismans in Ludhiana and introduced himself as Aman to the victim. Both of them fell in love.
They eloped and rented a home in Daurala in May. They lived there for about a month but they started fighting when she discovered he belonged to a different faith.
“On Eid, Shakib spiked cold drink and gave it to the 19-year-old, who soon fainted. Shakib then took her to the farm where he strangled her to death. He threw the head and severed arm to hide her identity, police said. The woman had two tattoos on her arms -- one of her name and another of her lover's,” the police said in the statement.
According to the police, the main accused, Shakib’s family too was involved in the crime.
“On Tuesday, as police took Shakib for a medical following his arrest, he made another attempt to escape when he snatched gun from a policeman and started firing. He was, however, shot in the leg and caught. A constable was also injured,” India Today cited in its report.
The police has arrested six people in connection to the case.
