The video of a woman being accused of criticising the dress sense of a group of girls has been going viral on social media. The video was shared on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube. The middle-aged woman allegedly asked seven men at a restaurant to rape the group because they were wearing short dresses.
A Facebook user who was at the receiving end of the comments by the woman posted the video. She said "Today my friends and I were harassed by a woman at a restaurant for me wearing a short dress. This middle aged woman you’ll see in the video addressed seven men at the restaurant to rape us because she felt we deserved it for wearing short clothes and bashing her unsolicited opinion."
In the video, the woman was approached by a group of girls who had earlier been criticised by the former. The girls asked her to apologise. After the girls started following her, the woman asked the store staff to call the police. On being asked to apologise, the woman refused to repeat her statement and told the girl filming the video to "go to hell".
A woman stood up for the girls and asked the lady to apologise. A mother herself, the woman stated that it is women like her who encourage males to nurture a patriarchal mentality.
the woman looked into the phone cameras and said "these ladies want to wear short to short dress to encourage all to see them". In response to which, the shoppers present at the mall started clapping. The woman even asked the parents of the girls to "control them". The woman accused of critisizing the girls later conducted a poll on Facebook asking people to support her statement, according to Mirror Now reports.
The reality is that there thousands like this woman in our country and it's their narrow mindedness that complicates the lives of sexual assault victims all the more.
UPDATE: The girls in the video decided to file a complaint against the lady. However, the lady in question apologised for her behaviour in a Facebook post. She writes, "I extend an unconditional apology to all the girls. In hind sight, I realise, I was harsh and incorrect in my statement. If any, I should have offered my opinion in private. I was concerned, however, I realise that I should have been protective and progressive in my outlook and not conservative and regressive."
She adds, "As a wife, sister and a mother and more importantly as a woman, I value ever woman's dignity. Once again, I profusely apologise to all women who's sentiments have been hurt." The woman essentially states that she was acting out of concern but admits that she should have kept her views to herself.
The woman's identity has not been revealed so far. Given the fact that fake news spreads like wildfire online, we would like to mention that we cannot be sure if this is indeed the woman who was involved in the incident, or if this is her actual Facebook account. However, the girl has posted in Instagram stating that the lady has apologised and confirmed the apology.
